I haven’t written much about it, but I’ve had fun watching the percipitous colapse of the Clarence Dupnik recall with great glee. Especially because at the time the recall was getting started (I realize that “getting organized” might be a strong word) conservative bloggers here and in Phoenix talked this thing up like they were on the verge of some great victory.

The recall effort was spearheaded by a guy named Dan Baltes (well, it turned out that wasn’t his real name). Baltes wasn’t just angry about the response time for Pima County deputies to get to his Salt Lake City home. He, as it turned out, was a huckster. I don’t mean a fan of Mike Huckabee either. He was imprisoned for fraud in the 1980′s and got into hot water for selling tickets to non-existent Glenn Beck rallies.

Now, according to the Tucson Weekly, he’s talking up complaints against local Tea Party honcho Trent Humphries and another conservative activist for messing up the recall effort. He hasn’t actually filed the complaints mind you, just sent faux legal documents.

With or without Baltes’s “help,” poor organization among local recall organizers and splits in the local tea party movement led them to make their own weird mistakes. The Baltes sideshow couldn’t have helped much.

Now that the Dupnik recall is dead, Baltes has plenty of other fish to fry. According to the Deseret News, he’s got a swath of other dubious organizations he heads up, including one to draft Alan West for President.

Uh, yeah.
